In Sussex County

Sussex County is a low divorce filing county, with approximately 1500 divorce cases filed each year. Residents of Sussex County’s larger townships such as Vernon, Sparta, Hopatcong, Wantage, Byram and Andover and residents of the smaller communities all have their divorce papers filed at the Superior Court, Sussex County, Family Part located in Newton.

The timeframe for an uncontested divorce in Sussex County is average (2-3 months). A court appearance is required for issuance of a Judgment of Divorce by the Court. Exceptions to the general rule that a personal appearance is necessary include active duty military service, or relocation. In those situations telephone appearances are usually permitted as long as there is advance notice to the court, and permission is sought and obtained prior to the final divorce hearing. It should be noted that in Sussex County, after the Judgment of divorce is signed by the judge, there is a separate, small fee that needs to be paid in order to get a gold seal affixed to the divorce judgment.

The Judges of the Sussex County Superior Court, Family Part are:

Hon. James A. Farber, J.S.C. and Hon. Louis A. Sceusi, J.S.C. The address of the Sussex County Child Support Office Address is 43-47 High Street, Newton, New Jersey, 07860.
